I've never done this sort of market before. I did trade shows a lot, as a caterer, handing out wedding cake samples and brochures, trying to influence all those brides and their mothers and get them to trust me with their big days. That was much more about me and my personality, management style, and ability to instill confidence in my clients. It was fun, and I got good at it.
This project relies so much more on the product, which is weird to me, since the whole point is to get food to hungry people. Brownies are just a vehicle, but it's the brownies that will entice people to help. So the house is full of brownies, mostly for photograph purposes, and the dining table is covered with packaging -- parchment and cupcake papers, plastic wrap, boxes and ribbons. It has that Christmas-clutter sort of feel.
We need to order a banner and buy an easy-up 10-foot canopy. (Anybody have one you'd like to sell or lend?) We need to nail down the commercial kitchen deal and bake a full line of products. We need to print business cards and tri-fold brochures. And, of course, we need to get through the red tape of renting space at a market or two. Then who knows -- we might be in the farmers' market business!
